Fish Camp Rocks!

Testimonials From Parents

... We want to thank you for the wonderful presentation at Yarmouth Elementary School. Our 2nd grader, Angus, came home enthusiastic about all he had learned.
He was just showing us your website and we decided to send you a message, thanking you for a wonderful morning at school…

... On behalf of the Hillside PTC, I would like to thank you for a most entertaining and informative presentation yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed the show, as did the teachers and the students. The performance was the perfect blend of humor and educational material. My son talked through our entire dinner, updating his father on all the details of the show, or should I say shows...

... Devlin's mom here… You guys are stars!  We were blown away by how much Devlin has learned about our marine environment. And I was thrilled to see that crab molt!  Devlin spotted it and told me all about it. Just amazing!

Testimonials from Students

... Mr. and Mrs. Fish, I really liked the stuff you do. I like the funny way you teach us all about the ocean. I saw you at Fairfield School in Saco, ME. My Mommy said that she saw you when she was younger and lived on Cliff Island. She still likes you as much as I do.  Keep up the good work!!! Keep being silly and funny - tough noogies!  So funny.  I hope I get to see you again soon.  Bye-bye for now.

... Thank you for coming to our school and talking about the animals in the water. It was fun when Mrs. Fish came in the classroom and drew on the board… 2nd grader, Medford, MA

... Thank you for coming in and teaching us about the oceans and the things that live in water. I really liked the play that you did and how you dressed up in the animal costumes that lived in the oceans. Thank you for teaching me new things… 3rd grader, Gardiner, ME

... I really enjoyed the program today. It was funny and it helped me learn a lot about the ocean. I especially like the part where you taught about how plants and animals hold on during a storm. The part where the 5th grade classes met with Mr. Fish in the library was very informing. I just want to say thanks… Waco, Texas

... It is so wonderful to see that you continue to educate folks about what goes on in the marine world.  I was a very young student when you came to my school and taught us about snails making holes in clamshells and Mr. Fish’s portrayal of a storm with lightning and thunder (boom ba-da, boom ba-da) will forever be an important part of my childhood.  I could go on and on about all the things you taught me during that one short day, but I really just wanted to thank you for continuing to bless the world with Mr. and Mrs. Fish. Understanding the marine eco-system is vital to its continued existence, and to have that understanding gifted to me as a small child is something I am truly grateful for. I now live out of state :( and have children of my own who I hope to be able to share the Mr. and Mrs. Fish experience with someday. Thank you again for sharing your passion with others…
(Dike-Newell School, Bath, Maine 1980-1986)

... When I was in elementary school, all southern Maine children had the same favorite assembly entertainers, Mr. and Mrs. Fish… They were marine educators, but that's like saying Michael Jordan played basketball.  Martin & Lewis in their heyday didn't have a 45-minute set this tight.  Mr. and Mrs. Fish dressed as sea animals, did hilarious skits, and us kids were too busy laughing to realize we were learning something. My friends and I put Mr. Fish on a comedy pedestal.
Now that I have my own little fish... I find myself recalling the comedy genius of Mr. Fish daily… With every nautical beast impression I perform, I reach for his brilliance.  And every day, when my daughter demands something I would never allow and she gets upset, I get right into her face and holler Mr. Fish's unforgettable catchphrase..."TOUGH NOOGIES!!!"  She laughs and understands that I mean business.  Apparently, Mr. & Mrs. Fish are still at it today...educating Downeast children about the sea and inspiring future moronic fathers.   Mr. and Mrs. Fish, I salute you.  (former York, Maine student)

Testimonials from Schools and Teachers

... On behalf of the students at Main Dunstable Elementary School in Nashua, NH, I wanted to thank you for your wonderful show on October 11th. Your humor, wit and fabulous costumes really captured the children’s attention so that they had fun while they absorbed all the information you presented. The fifth graders have been studying invertebrates and the food chain in their classrooms this fall and we were pleased to see how much of their studies they had retained. As you described the different environments and shell colorings it was rewarding to see the students raise their hands to volunteer the names of the sea creatures you were describing. The program reinforced their classroom work beautifully… (Nashua, NH)

... I just wanted to pass along the fact that Dale and I weren't the only ones who felt Thursday's show was exceptionally well done.  Teachers in every school have said how much they and their students enjoyed it.  They especially appreciated the extra effort you made to clearly tie the content to habitats…  You hit that ball WAY out of the park!  Thank you again!!... (Administrators, Augusta, Maine)

... Thank you for coming to Lynch School and sharing so much about ocean and tide pool life.  The kids really enjoyed the show and learned a lot!  On a personal note, I think you were just as enjoyable to watch as a grown-up as you were when you came to my elementary school and I saw your show as a child 20 years ago!  Tough noogies! Thanks again… (1st grade teacher, Winchester, MA)

... The teachers have told me this was the finest program we have had at Robert Hunter. The children were mesmerized with the wealth of information you shared all day long. Your use of many voices for characters of the sea really made your presentations delightfully funny…  (Principal, Flemington, NJ)

... I've been teaching my rocky shore program to the Falmouth 2nd graders this week. There are 8 classes and today I had the first 4 classes. I'd say today alone, there were about 6 kids that attended Fish Camp. They were all totally engaged and very knowledgeable of the critters I had on display. So, kudos to you for making a wonderful impact on these kids…  (Marine Education Colleague)

... Well, what a great 5-6 years it has been! You have been the greatest of camp directors EVER! T-Rex was/is very funny, as are all of Mr. Fish’s jokes, along with Mrs. Fish’s energetic enthusiasm. Thanks for everything…

... I enjoyed coming to Fish Camp this year for sessions 1 and 4. I had a blast. This was a wonderful experience for me. One of the highlights was earning the dairy queen attack…

... I wanted to write this letter in thanks for all the efforts you’ve put in to make this camp so amazing.  Fish Camp has been a tremendous part of my life. At Fish Camp, I can be myself and be confident without the fear of being judged by others. Fish Camp teaches things beyond the ocean. It teaches us how to be ourselves and to have no fear. Whether it’s going over the wall or performing a skit in front of camp, we are always encouraged and that’s what makes Fish Camp so special… Without Fish Camp, I would be a completely different person, I would not have the confidence or knowledge I do now. I can’t thank everyone enough for the best summers ever. I’ve grown a lot since my first year, but I’ll never be too old to appreciate all the time I’ve spent here. Thank you for all the amazing memories …

... Walking out of the car in the morning to fish camp I felt like I was coming to a safe and fun environment. Four square was full of kids and there were happy people all around me. I knew that the day was going to be full of awesome activities. When I walked into the fish camp room, I was surrounded by sea creatures and tanks. I felt like I was under the sea. … I just wrote this letter to thank you for making Fish Camp so enjoyable and awesome… an experience that will last a lifetime…

... Fish camp has shaped me since I was seven and I will always carry its jokes and lessons with me. Thank you! …

... I cannot thank you both enough for all of the great summers we have shared together! The memories I have from the activities we have done & the lifelong friends I have made will be something I will always cherish. What you both do at FC is unique & in many ways life changing. To see campers come in … watch them grow & become a different person over the course of four years is unbelievable! You two should be very, very proud of the great work that you do! …

... Thank you for being the type of teacher I can still learn from at 25 …

... There is no place I would rather spend the summer than Fish Camp …

... On climbing the wall: … I have progressed from a terrified seven year old camper, to a 12 year old, who fearlessly led others over to wall, to a counselor who now mentors children through the process… Gazing at ‘the wall’ through my 22 year old eyes, I realize the true meaning of this task and my role in it. This wall is made of bricks and cement, but to me, it represents every hardship these children will face in their lives. If they can overcome fear by climbing this wall, perhaps they will gain some of the tools they need to face future adversity and climb other walls … I cannot climb this wall for them or pull them over it, but I can support and encourage them along the way. Standing in the warm sunshine looking at this familiar structure, I suddenly know what I want to do with my life: I want to help people climb their walls…

... At a workshop recently, I was asked to name and describe the best school leader I’ve worked for. I described you guys… you foster such a caring, creative, curious, inspirational, fun environment for the campers and staff. You have high expectations for the people around you and they rise to them. Thank you so much! I’ve learned a ton from you about being a good teacher and a better person. I love Fish Camp and I love you! See you next summer! ...
